Easy Tres Leches Cake

Tres Leches is my favorite cake. It’s wet, it’s sweet, it’s soulful and satisfying, and when I want it, I want it, now!

Once you deconstruct a tres leches cake, and understand its parts, it’s pretty easy to put together in a jiffy. Tres Leches is spanish for “three milks” – evaporated milk, sweetened consensed milk, and whipped cream. The spongy vanilla cake is saturated with evaporated milk, then drizzled with sweetened condensed milk, and then it’s topped with thick layer of not-over-sweetened whipped cream. Finish it off with a dusting of cinnamon, and it’s a dessert made in heaven!

With this recipe, you can put this together in under 10 minutes.

Yields: 4 to 6 servings

Ingredients:

  • 1 lb of store-bought vanilla cake loaf
  • 16oz whipping cream
  • 2/3 cup of white sugar
  • 1 can of sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 can of evaporated milk
  • cinnamon, powdered

Instructions:

  1. Put the whipping cream in a bowl, add the sugar and whip until it’s thick whipped cream. Put aside.
  2. For each portion, cut a slice or two of vanilla cake and lay flat on a plate. Drizzle with evaporated milk so that the cake is soaked in it.
  3. Drizzle with sweetened condensed milk.
  4. Top with whipped cream and a dusting of cinnamon. Enjoy!
