90s Movie Theater Popcorn at Home

Do you remember what movie theater popcorn used to smell and taste like back in the 80s and 90s? The aroma would reach you at the parking lot, and the flavor would have you digging all the way down to the bottom of the bucket!

Nowadays, movie theater popcorn has lost its luster. It has a nasty cheesy smell, and lacks that authentic popcorn flavor. So, what is it missing?

The “secret” ingredient that they used to put into popcorn is simply coconut oil. Coconut oil has been around for a very long time. At one point it was fed to pigs to fatten them up! But at some point in the last 20 years, with the advent of “health kicks” like the keto diet and paleo, coconut oil became really popular, and as a result, it went up in price.

I am guessing that movie theaters found it too expensive all of a sudden, and opted for cheaper oils and artificial flavors instead.

In this video, I will show you how to make great tasting movie theater style popcorn using delicious coconut oil and real butter!

Ingredients needed:

  • Popcorn Corn Kernels
  • Sea Salt
  • Coconut Oil
  • Salted Butter
